Orthodontics

Every smile has its own requirements. Fixed or removable as well as visible and invisible braces provide relief. Every tooth and jaw misalignment also has its own symptoms. We can treat poor oral hygiene, due to teeth that are too close together, or muscle tension, back pain, jaw joint problems and premature tooth loss due to overloading of the masticatory system.

Orthodontic treatment with braces

The methods used in orthodontics range from removable and fixed braces to invisible aligners and orthodontic surgery (corrective osteotomies). Each treatment is individually tailored to the needs of our patients.

Visible Braces

Classic fixed braces consist of brackets that are bonded to the teeth. These are used to hold the wire that causes the teeth to be repositioned. Fixed braces correct misalignments by exerting continuous pressure or tension on the teeth.

The transparent, invisible braces in Vienna & Linz

Aligners: These are transparent, removable aligners that gradually move the teeth into the desired position. Unlike traditional braces, these are barely visible and are therefore very popular with teenagers and adults. Find out more about treatment with invisible braces in our practices here.

Lingual braces: These are fixed braces with their own brackets and wires, which are bonded to the tongue and are therefore not visible from the outside. As we specialise in aligner treatments in our practice, we no longer offer this type of orthodontics.

Orthodontics & oral surgery: everything under one roof

In collaboration with Dr Dr Felix Wick, we can offer the majority of all necessary treatments under one roof at our joint practice in Vienna.

Exposure of impacted teeth: If teeth are displaced in the bone and have not erupted into the row of teeth, surgical exposure of the displaced teeth may be necessary for alignment using orthodontic appliances.

Removal of wisdom teeth: This is a prerequisite for the treatment of an open bite in particular. For all other orthodontic treatments, it is clarified in advance when and whether removal is advisable.

In the case of extremely misaligned teeth, surgical adjustment by an oral surgeon may be necessary. Depending on the treatment, Dr Wutzl will supplement our team in this area or refer you to an oral and maxillofacial surgery department at one of the Austrian hospitals.

Accelerated orthodontics

Do you want faster treatment success? By using an accelerator for 5-10 minutes a day, the total treatment time for invisible and fixed braces can be reduced. A special infrared light wave stimulates and accelerates bone remodelling - known as photobiomodulation.

Painful feelings of pressure after changing braces or wires are also minimised by using the appliance. The success of the therapy can be easily tracked using a special app. We will be happy to inform you about the exact application.

Orthodontics for children and adolescents

The earlier we start treating misaligned teeth and jaws in children, the better. If your child suffers from a misalignment, the dentist will usually point this out to you as part of the dental check-up. A referral is not absolutely necessary for a visit to the orthodontist. In our orthodontic practices, the first consultation is always non-binding - simply make an appointment online.

Orthodontics for adults

Would you like to finally fulfil your dream of beautiful, straight teeth? Or do you keep noticing that your smile tends to be restrained in the presence of other people?

There are also various orthodontic treatment options for adults that take both functional and aesthetic needs into account. Removable, transparent splints (invisible braces), for example, are a discreet option for correcting misaligned teeth.

Smile Makeover

It's not just straight teeth that make a beautiful smile. Colour, shape, the extent to which the gums are visible and, of course, how the teeth generally fit into the face are also important. In addition to the centre of the face, the position of the nose and the width of the lips, there are many points to consider and certain criteria that make up the perfect smile or beautiful teeth.

Using photos and special computer simulations, the perfect teeth for the respective face can be simulated well so that the patient can get an idea of what would still be possible after the teeth have been adjusted. Sometimes it is lateral incisors that are too small, which, if extended, can change the overall appearance incredibly. Other times it is the gummy smile, i.e. too much visible gum when smiling, that is disturbing. If the course of the gingiva (gums) is generally irregular, some teeth look too long or too short. All of this can also be treated. For individualised aesthetics, we use scans, photos and X-rays to create the right treatment plan for you.

Orthodontics: What does health insurance pay for in Austria?

In Austria, health insurance only covers certain orthodontic services, especially for children and adolescents up to the age of 18 (see Free braces).

A treatment cost plan is drawn up at the start of treatment. On the basis of the documents prepared, an application can then be drawn up and submitted to the health insurance company. The exact amount of costs covered and the conditions may vary depending on the health insurance company. Additional or cosmetic treatments are usually not covered. It is advisable to clarify the details directly with the health insurance company before starting treatment.

Procedure for orthodontic treatment in our practice

  1. Initial consultation: As part of an initial orthodontic consultation, I examine the teeth and jaws. We discuss what problems are present and what treatment goals are to be achieved. If it is not a case of free braces in the Linz practice, treatment cost plans are drawn up and provided for cost information.
  2. Diagnostics: X-rays, photos and scans of the teeth are taken. These are used to precisely analyse the position of the teeth and jaws. By the way: We work without impressions in our practice.
  3. Treatment plan: Based on the diagnostic results, I draw up a personalised treatment plan. This contains information on the type of braces, duration of treatment and costs.
  4. Start of treatment: The braces are fitted or adjusted. These can be fixed, removable or invisible braces.
  5. Regular check-ups: Regular check-ups take place during treatment. The progress is checked and the braces are adjusted if necessary.
  6. Active treatment phase: Depending on the complexity of the case, this phase can last from a few months to several years.
  7. Retention phase: Active treatment is followed by the retention phase to stabilise the teeth in their new position. Retainers are often used here.
  8. Completion and aftercare: Once treatment is complete, we carry out final check-ups. Regular aftercare is important in order to secure the result in the long term.
